More from Special Needs Law Month

In conjunction with our observance of National Special Needs Law Month, we would like to highlight some additional events that Christenson Johnson attorneys and staff participated in last month.

On October 17, Attorney Meghan Teigen presented “Saving Strategies to plan for a lifetime of independence through the use of ABLE Accounts and Special Needs Trusts” at the Fearless Future Workshop hosted by Living Our Visions (LOV-Dane).  The presentation addressed different options that allow individuals to save for their long-term care needs, including placing funds in an “exempt” resource such as an ABLE account or a Special Needs Trust.

Wings for All® (sometimes known as Wings for Autism®), an airport rehearsal program for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, took place on October 20 at the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) for the first time.  The event was sponsored by The Arc Dane County and The Arcs of Green and Richland Counties.  These organizations teamed up with the airport, Delta Air Lines and TSA to offer this opportunity to participants in our area.  Attorney Barbara Hughes, Vice President of The Arc Dane County and chair of this event, is thrilled with the success of this first Wings for All ® event, and that the airport is committed to making this a continuing program.  Every participant succeeded in going through check-in for boarding, TSA screening and boarding the airplane.  While waiting for boarding, the pilots were available for photos with participants.  The Delta flight crew went through the routine flight safety features (a new experience for nearly all participants) and started up the engines so that the noise would be part of the experience.  Upon deplaning, the crew gave each participant their wings pin, and all moved down to a short reception where participants received a gift bag and food boxes.  For more information and extra photos, see these links:

Barb was joined by two of our staff members who volunteered at the event: Danielle Sendelbach, Legal Manager, and Bianca McCormick, Legal Assistant.
